GSDT > Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: When is James A. Garfield High School going to be closed, in order to begin construction on the "New Garfield"?
A: After the last day of school in June 2006, we will close the current Garfield building in order to begin construction.

Q: Where is the interim location for Garfield during the construction period?
A: Garfield will be housed at the former Lincoln High School site, on 43rd and Interlake, in the Wallingford District of Seattle.

Q: How long will Garfield be at the Lincoln High School site?
A: Two school years: 2006-2007 and 2007-2008.

Q: When does the "New Garfield" open?
A: September, 2008. The Class of 2009 will be the first class to graduate from the "new" Garfield.

Q: If I attend Garfield now and graduate in 2007 or 2008 when Garfield is temporarily housed at Lincoln High School, will my diploma still be from Garfield High School?
A: Yes!

Q: Which is the last class to graduate from the "old Garfield"?
A: The Class of 2006 is the last class to graduate from the current building before the remodel begins. Graduation ceremonies for Garfield are not held on-site, however. We usually use either Seahawks Stadium or Safeco Field for graduation ceremonies.

Q: What events are being planned to say goodbye to the "old Garfield" in 2006?
A: While we haven't yet formed specific plans to say goodbye to the old building, the Garfield High School Foundation and a number of alumni groups are excited to work with our students, staff, parents, and community to give our building a proper send-off. This building has great historic relevance to our greater Seattle community, and we are definitely going to celebrate!
